Adoption research

At UK Genealogy USA we pride ourselves on the work we do to trace the Natural Parent(s) of Adoptee's and those who had children adopted. This is however a very traumatic event for many people. In most of the cases we work with, the client has little or no information.

The process of obtaining the original birth certificate details is a fairly quick one, but in most cases the details obtained through this are no longer valid. It is from here that most clients begin the frustration of not being able to know more.

The work we do in tracing the natural parent(s) is often a long chase of changes of address to and including change of name and moving to other countries.

We do recognise however that it is very traumatic for all involved, the adoptee with the anxiety of trying to find out, to the natural parent(s) when we contact them and they realise the child they had adopted is now trying to contact them. Our aim is to try and keep this trauma to a minimum.

It is for this reason that we have taken the following stance in relation to our making contact with the natural parent(s). If they say that they do not want their details passing on to our client, we offer them an alternative.

We will, working with the appropriate bodies, contact a Counsellor Agency that are specialised in this field of work. The details of this Agency will then be forwarded to both parties, Client and Natural Parent(s). If the Counsellor Agency then get in touch and inform us that they have heard from the client or natural parent(s) we will forward our case file details to them.

We find that this approach to the problem is often the best; it is, after all, often a huge shock to the system when you find out, and the initial reaction is often different to the way people feel once the shock is over and they have calmed down.

UK Genealogy USA treat every case as though it was our own situation, we are very sympathetic to all parties involved and do not in any way, pressure people to meet up, nor do we just locate and disclose without any thought to the consequences. We hope we give a caring and supportive service to all our clients and that this results in a happy ending for all concerned.
